2015 Skincare Routine: How I got Rid of Dark Marks on My Skin

If you struggle with acne and you want to get rid of and fade the dark marks on your skin. Do not give up! The truth is, it is possible to fade your hyper-pigmentation from your face. If you always leave your house with your face layered in foundation, fear not, there will be one day where you will be able to freely run errands, go shopping or to the gym with a bare face. The most important thing is for you to know how important your skincare routine is in order to succeed. I struggled for years with post-acne hyper-pigmentation and there were many people who judged me for it and made recommendations for products that didn't work. I wasted so much money on useless ''acne curing'' products and I decided to finally take matters into my own hands and through trial and error I have been able to fade and get rid of most of my acne scarring and dark marks. My wish is that I can also help you to do the same. Keep reading if you want to find out more of what worked for me.

The Skincare Routine That Helped Me To Get Rid of Dark Marks

1. Get yourself a gentle cleanser or you can just use soap like I do. My favorite soap to use on my face is the Dove Beauty Bar (for sensitive skin) . I use this with my Clarisonic MIA. I have been
using the Dove soap for over 4 years and overtime I have noticed that I do not get pimples and my skin is not as clogged and dull like before.

2. Prevent, prevent, prevent. If you have olive, brown or dark skin then you know that having a pimple on your face means that you will have dark marks left over later on. What you want to do is prevent this from happening. Make sure that you are using a serum with acne fighting ingredients. My main serum of choice is the Makeup Artists Choice Gly-Luronic Serum. I barely EVER get any breakouts or pimples when I put this serum on my face. It works well if you wear makeup as well and contains Glycolic acid to prevent pimples from forming as you go about your day! I also apply this to my face when I am sleeping.

3. Get yourself a face brush. I use my Clarisonic MIA 2 on the daily and I would have to say that it has really saved my skin from breaking out.  I only usually get a pimple once in a while and normally its during that time of the month. If you find the Clarisonic MIA 2 to be a bit pricy, you can also start by using a simple manual face brush.

4. Put your money on a quality toner. Toner is what will help to remove any remaining dirt and grime from your skin after you have cleansed it. You will be shocked to discover how much dirt and makeup you still have on your face even after you have washed with soap and water! I use the Mandelic Acid Toner (more on that below )

5. Start using high quality skincare. Gone are the days that I used foaming face washes from the drugstore. In the past, I used all kinds of ''acne face wash and toners'' from companies such as Neutrogena, Olay, Clean & Clear, Noxema etc. you name it, I tried it. I even wasted so much money on expensive department store brands only to get more acne from these products and no results AT ALL.

I did my research and through trial and error and in late 2013 I stumbled upon Makeup Artists Choice. I ordered my products with little to no expectation since I had been so discouraged over the years after wasting so much money on products that did not work.  I decided I wasn't going to get my hopes up, only to be disappointed and let down by yet another skincare product. One thing about having acne is you will get DESPERATE! After all, nobody wants to walk around in public with dark marks and pimples on their face. We all want clear, smooth and even skin. That's a fact.

After emailing back and forth with the employees at Makeup Artist Choice, I was able to talk to them about my problem: I had gotten my acne under control but I wanted to get rid of the dark spots that I still had on my face. I wanted to be able to leave my house without having to cake on layers of foundation and concealer!! It can get tiring to put on makeup each time you have to go run errands or head to the grocery store.

The products that have really helped me to get rid of and fade the dark marks that I had on my skin are:

25% Mandelic Acid Peel  (I have since move on to using 40% Mandelic Acid Peel )
Fade Peel
Mandelic Toner
Gly-Luronic Acid Serum

All the products mentioned above can be found at the Makeup Artist Choice website here

How I use these products to Fade Dark Marks and Hyperpigmentation

Mondays :
=> On Mondays I will apply 40% Mandelic Acid Peel and leave it on for 5 minutes, then rinse with just soap and water. I apply the Mandelic Acid to my face every other week.
=> Apply moisturizer. My Nightime moisturizer of choice whenever I do a chemical peel is Emu oil, however it is oil from an animal. If you prefer animal free product I would suggest that you try Bio Oil or Jojoba oil.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays
I use the Mandelic Acid toner every Tuesday and Wednesday because using it too frequently can over dry your skin.

Fridays:

=> On Sundays is when I apply my Fade Peel and leave it on my face for 5 minutes, then rinse using soap and water. I then moisturize with Emu oil.

 In Between:
Regular day moisturizers: Whenever I am not doing a chemical peel is: On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays I moisturize my face with the Gly-uronic Acid Serum both during the day and at night.

* I use my Clarisonic MIA brush to cleanse my face on the days such as Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursday whenever I have not applied a chemical peel on my face. Always wait 24 hrs to exfoliate your skin with a manual brush after a chemical peel.

This is the simple and effective skincare routine that I followed for almost 2 years in order to fade and get rid of most of the dark marks on my skin and specifically on my face. The most important thing to remember is do not fall for expensive products thinking that they will work. I hope that you can get on your clear skin journey and also fade your spots.
